Safety tips (7)

Palytoxin (zoanthids/palythoa) is lethal - aerosolized during boiling rocks. Wear gloves + mask + goggles when handling

Lionfish + scorpionfish venom: painful but rarely fatal - immediate hot water (110°F) immersion + emergency room

Sea hare ink: harmless to humans but can wipe out a tank if released. Don't squeeze sea hares

Anemone stings: most are mild irritation. Wear gloves when relocating BTAs or carpets

Aiptasia: not dangerous to humans but stings coral - eradicate with peppermint shrimp or aiptasia-X

Pufferfish: tetrodotoxin in some species (mostly wild-caught marine puffers); pets are safe but never eat them

Wash hands thoroughly after tank work - opportunistic infections possible from minor cuts
