Ich Management Strategy is a deeply-debated reef-keeping approach. Premise: Cryptocaryon irritans (marine ich) is essentially universal - even properly QT'd tanks can outbreak. Healthy fish in low-stress environments resist ich naturally. IMS protocol: 1) maintain pristine water quality. 2) minimize stress (proper stocking, no aggressive tankmates). 3) feed varied high-quality diet + garlic + selcon. 4) provide UV sterilizer (kills free-swimmers). 5) only quarantine sensitive species (tangs, anthias). Counter-argument (strict QT): proper hyposalinity or copper QT eradicates ich completely. Reef-only systems with QT-only stock have zero outbreaks. The "endemic" claim is false - it's due to lazy QT. Reality: both work. IMS suits hobbyists with low-stress systems + healthy fish. Strict QT suits hobbyists willing to set up dedicated quarantine + delay stocking 30-45 days. Safest hybrid: always QT new fish + maintain low-stress display. Best of both.
