Tilapia eat plankton, filamentous algae, and soft aquatic vegetation - which makes them a biological vegetation-control tool for ponds with persistent algae problems. They also provide additional bass forage and grow fast enough to harvest as table fish. Cold-sensitive: most varieties die when water drops below 50°F, so they're an annual restock in northern ponds. Blue tilapia is the cold-tolerant option (survives water down to 50°F).
